"Vintage Tone With Testosterone"
That pretty much says it all. But naturally I’ll go ahead and say more anyway.
Almost since the beginning of the replacement pickup, the zone roughly between 8.5k and 14k has been a no-man’s land for big-name pickup makers and even many boutique winders. Yet many players have longed for pickups that combine the best aspects of vintage (chime, detail, clarity) and high output (punch, midrange grunt and sustain).
I was one of those players and got sick of losing money chasing the tone dragon, only to have to turn around and sell the pickup at a loss. The buzz about this or that pickup promised to deliver just this kind of sound, but never failed to disappoint. Still, many of these pu’s had strong points that I wished could be somehow combined.
One rainy day I was home sick from work and thought, well, how hard can it be? I got the idea in my head that I was going to add as many extra turns onto a Strat bridge pu as I could. It took hours and there were snags and tangles and it was the ugliest thing you’ve ever seen – a ball of yarn that might unravel at any moment – but it worked. I had taken a 6.5k bridge and beefed it up to 7.5k. The sound difference was like adding little chunks of meat to a thin spaghetti sauce. Though I was about to learn the hard way about ‘how hard it could be’, I was hooked…
Though I make pickups that cover everything from vintage to high output, this particular kind of mid-output pickup is my specialty. Also, I custom wind, so if you don't see what you want, don't hesitate to ask.
Payment is via either Paypal (address [email protected]) or money order. Add $6 for USA/Canada shipping ($12 international) for typical orders. (Bulk orders will require more. International orders with tracking are available but they're pricey, starting at about $40.) Paypal fee is just under 4% of the total.
